«Via its Group company Thiess, HOCHTIEF’s subsidiary Leighton has been contracted to construct a construction village for some 3,300 offshore project workers off the Australian coast. Within the framework of this assignment, the company in a joint venture with two partners will design and construct the complete infrastructure. The work is expected to commence in the second half of 2009 and represents a total volume of approximately EUR 286 million (AUD 500 million).
The new construction village will be located on Barrow Island, off the west coast of Australia. The clients are the groups Chevron, ExxonMobil and Shell who want to develop gas fields located about 130 to 200 kilometers off the north-west coast. As member of the joint venture, Thiess will take on project management and provide construction and commercial services.
