"Every year MIPIM sets a new record. Once again this year, the event
is expanding with 26,815 m² of net exhibition space (plus 2,315 m²
compared to 2007) and more than 28,000 delegates expected from 85
countries. On 29 February, 2008, ten days before the event opens,
there were already:
8,300 accredited participating companies (there were ultimately
8,500 registered in 2007, so a projected rise of 10% over last year)
2,500 exhibiting companies (already the final figure in 2007)
1,500 investment companies (compared to 1,300 by the end of the 2007
event, so almost 28% up on last year’s figure)
Among the participants, a large number of key experts and
decision-makers:
More than 800 CEOs from international companies
More than 140 Mayors from cities in 25 countries
More than 920 firms of architects and city designers, represented by
nearly 1,500 professionals
More than 110 international hotel groups
Some domestic markets are showing higher increases than others:
The most represented countries at MIPIM are:
- The United Kingdom (1,733 companies accredited by February 29, up
6%)
- France (1,208 companies, up 1%)
- Germany (719 companies, up 22%)
- The Russian Federation (488 companies, up 13%)
- Belgium (324 companies, up 19%)
- Northern European countries, including the Netherlands (277
companies), Denmark (251 companies) and Sweden (246 companies), a
rise of 13% for the latter two.
The fastest-growing countries among the 10 best-represented
countries are Germany (3rd) and the United States (9th), both up 22%
In the exhibition area, the largest stands include:
1. The London stand, 897 m² (already in the 1st rank in 2007 with
763 m²)
2. The Russian regions stand of 550 m² (only 3rd in size in 2007
with 350 m²)
New in 2008
The creation of 2 new exhibition areas representing an additional
2,115 m², "Harbour Village" and "Port Side", overlooking the port
and increasing the number of exhibition halls to 17
Sizeable participation from Germany with, for the first time this
year, a 210 m² stand for the Ministry for Economy and Technology,
which hosts a dozen German companies, as well as the cities of
Frankfurt and Munich, which join Berlin on one of the largest stands
at MIPIM, with 355 m², 352 m² and 329 m² respectively
A new format for professional meetings (to complete the workshops
dedicated to end-users and “speed matching" sessions started last
year); These Hotel Chat Groups, organized in partnership with the
hotel consulting firm MKG Hospitality, focus on investment
opportunities in hotel assets in light of the current boom in
international tourism
The creation of a new "green" buildings category for the MIPIM
Awards, which features competing projects that respect the
environment and are operationally sustainable, particularly in
managing energy consumption
The launch of a “MIPIM Summit", bringing together a selection of key
international private investors behind closed doors, with the
session broadcast exclusively on Bloomberg TV

MIPIM 2008 features 43 conferences with 162 speakers, including 6
keynotes covering major issues in real estate today across all
sectors and regions and all approaches, whether financial,
architectural or sustainable. Among the most noteworthy regions this
year: Asia (with a special morning on Tuesday, March 11) and still
active "Old" Europe (with a special afternoon on Tuesday, March 11),
as well as high-growth potential markets such as the Russian
Federation, the Middle East and Latin America (with a special day on
Thursday, March 13). Among emerging investment issues: projects that
integrate sustainable development criteria (with a special day on
Wednesday, March 12) as well as the growth in hotel assets linked to
expanding foreign tourism (a special day on Thursday, March 13).
Projects selected for the Speed Matching sessions will be presented
in the VIP Investors & End-users lounge and will involve 13
different countries:
Tuesday, March 11 from 16:30 to 17:30 - 6 funds from Luxembourg,
Albania, Morocco, Switzerland, Belgium and France
Wednesday, March 12 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am - 5 projects from:
Belgium (mixed use), Canada (mixed use), France (offices), Ukraine (mixed
use) and Romania (residential)
Thursday, March 13 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am - 5 projects from:
Hungary (mixed use), the United Kingdom (residential), Spain (hotel
and tourism), the Russian Federation (logistics) and Morocco (hotel
and tourism)

Out of the 82 applications submitted this year, 15 have been
short-listed to compete in the 5 categories of the competition:
business centres, refurbished office buildings, residential
developments, hotels and tourism resorts, and for the first time
this year, green buildings.
The 7 countries represented are the United Kingdom (4 projects),
Germany (4 projects), France (3 projects), Netherlands, the United
States, China and Japan (1 project each).
