Hong
Kong’s Secretary for Development, Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-Ngor, JP,
congratulated MIPIM Asia for establishing itself as "an exclusive
platform for key players in the property market to interact and to
exchange ideas on coming up with even more wonderful projects" at
MIPIM Asia’s opening ceremony
Of the 929 companies represented at MIPIM Asia this year, 319 were
from Hong Kong, compared to 250 in 2007. Other countries which sent
large delegations included China, Singapore, United Kingdom, Japan,
USA, France, South Korea, Australia and Vietnam. Over 500 leading
international real estate investors from 28 countries converged on
the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
“In
these challenging economic times, the presence of so many investors
confirmed that Asia remains a significant target for the
international investment community. Our client feedback clearly
indicates that it is more important than ever to develop an
understanding of the region’s real estate specificities and
strengthen or start relationships which will help drive business
forward in the months and years to come,” noted MIPIM Asia Director
Gilles Saint Georges Chaumet.
This year, MIPIM Asia innovated with a
series of workshops that took place in a dedicated space where
companies were able to introduce their projects to professionals and
network. The thematic lunches, moderated by real estate specialists,
were also a great success.
Projects
from China, Japan, Singapore and South Korea won trophies at the
second edition of the MIPIM Asia Awards, designed to pay tribute to
the most innovative real estate projects in the Asia Pacific region.
The MIPIM Asia Awards took place on November 20. For the first time,
the MIPIM Asia Awards winners were chosen by delegates attending
MIPIM Asia, following a pre-selection process by an international
jury. The participants’ Choice Award was given to The Sail @ Marina
Bay (Singapore).*
MIPIM Asia 2008 also featured a series of gold standard conferences
and events with speakers including Glenn Maguire, Chief Economist
Asia, Société Générale (Hong Kong SAR); Rod Cornish, Head of
Research, Macquarie Bank (Australia); Chris Reilly, Director of
Property, Asia, Henderson Global Investors (S) Ltd (Singapore); Joel
Peck, Senior Vice President, LandAmerica Financial Group, Inc.
(USA); Nicholas Brooke, Chairman, Professional Property Services
Limited (Hong Kong SAR); etc.
Launched this year, the MIPIM Asia
Special Tour - Japan provided a unique forum for international
investors to meet with leaders from the Japanese property industry.
Over one and a half days, delegates had the opportunity to attend 12
top quality conferences in Tokyo, just before MIPIM Asia took place.
400 participants were expected, 611 turned up due to the exceptional
line up of speakers, including Minoru Mori, President and CEO, Mori
Building Co., Ltd., one of Japan’s main developers, as well as
Japanese architect Tadao Ando.
MIPIM Asia 2009 will take centre stage once again in Hong Kong from
