(Union Investment acquires development project for Holiday Inn hotel in Frankfurt)
Union Investment has acquired the development project for a new Holiday Inn hotel at 27-31 Mainzer Landstraße, located directly on Francois-Mitterand-Platz in Frankfurt, for its open-ended real estate fund “UniImmo: Deutschland”. The vendor is Talanx Immobilienmanagement GmbH / A+S Rückversicherung. Austrian developer UBM AG will build and run the 4-star hotel.
Day-to-day operations will be managed by the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG). IHG is the world’s largest hotel company, with one of the best reservation systems in the industry.
«The fact that this is a new building, the prime location in Frankfurt’s banking district, which will generate high demand among business travellers, and the signing of a long-term lease all mean that this is a hotel investment that offers the prospect of attractive returns for our investors» said Dr. Frank Billand, a member of the management team at Union Investment Real Estate GmbH.
Work is scheduled to begin in autumn 2013, with completion set for the first quarter of 2015. The building will be designed to meet DGNB Silver certification standards. The new Holiday Inn will offer 249 rooms and 76 parking spaces within close proximity of the central railway station, city centre and the trade show venue.
«UBM will develop the property and be responsible for the successful running of the hotel thereafter» said UBM CEO Karl Bier.
Frank Billand and Karl Bier are already looking forward to working together on the development. Union Investment and UBM have long-established links through a number of successful joint projects. These include the Radisson Blu hotel in Krakow and a Crowne Plaza hotel in Amsterdam.
