“Inventing the Greater Paris Metropolis”, Europe’s biggest architecture and urbanism contest, is a finalist at the MIPIM Awards 2020 in the ‘Best Futura Mega Project’ category.
Launched by the Greater Paris Metropolis in 2016, and with two successful editions under its belt, the “Inventing the Greater Paris Metropolis” contest attracted submissions from 644 teams, with 77 projects selected to redevelop a total of 260 hectares and create almost 20 hectares of green space. The Greater Paris Metropolis has succeeded in generating real momentum behind this scheme, with almost €10 billion in private investment raised to construct 18,000 homes and create 80,500 jobs, of which 61,500 will be permanent posts.
“Inventing the Greater Paris Metropolis” owes much of its success to the collective commitment made by local mayors, elected officials and other stakeholders, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them all. This contest has done so much to boost the attractiveness and reputation of the Greater Paris Metropolis. Congratulations to the winners of both editions, it is their hard work and creativity which have taken us to the finals of the MIPIM Awards 2020, and I hope will take us all the way to the prize,” opines Patrick OLLIER, President of the Greater Paris Metropolis.
Bringing together architects, developers, promoters, investors, operators, start-ups and more, the great strength of “Inventing the Greater Paris Metropolis” is its dedication to reinventing the way we work and live in the city, combining innovation with ambitious environmental standards. The contest has now entered the operational phase, with building permits issued, construction work in progress and even the inauguration of the first winning projects.
“Inventing the Greater Paris Metropolis” has been shortlisted as a finalist at the MIPIM Awards, selected by an independent, international jury from among 228 applications from 45 countries all over the world.
The Awards are an international competition organised by the International Marketplace for Real Estate Professionals (MIPIM) at their flagship annual gathering, held every year since 1991 and this year set to take over Cannes from 10 to 13 March 2020, and their aim is to recognise the most remarkable and successful development projects in the world, whether already completed or still in the design phase..
The vote is open to all MIPIM participants from 10 to 12 March 2020. The votes cast by participants will count for 50% of the final result, with the remaining 50% decided by the jury.
The winners will be revealed at the MIPIM Awards Ceremony 2020, Thursday 12 March at 6.30pm in the Grand Auditorium of the Palais des Festivals, Cannes.
