Land Securities, the UK’s largest commercial property company, received the ‘Best Retail Real Estate Development in City’ Award at MAPIC 2013 last night. The award recognised Land Securities’ latest scheme Trinity Leeds, a 1 million sq ft retail and entertainment destination in the centre of the UK’s third largest city.
Opened in March 2013, Trinity Leeds is a £400m three-level scheme and the only major shopping centre to be delivered in the UK since 2011. Trinity Leeds has contributed to a major transformation of the city’s prime retail quarter.
Trinity Leeds showed unprecedented leasing performance with 90% let on opening and has demonstrated the strength of retailer confidence in the scheme’s ability to revitalise the city’s retail core.
Today, Trinity Leeds houses 120 stores and has recently launched Trinity Kitchen, an area dedicated to food and dining.
Developed under the latest sustainability standards, Trinity Leeds is one of the first major UK retail developments to achieve BREEAM ‘Excellent’ at design and construction stage and a 28% improvement on Part L CO2 emissions of the UK Building Regulations.
Land Securities has maximised on the site’s proximity to public transport networks, and delivered a highly accessible scheme, which re-establishes key linkages to the city’s principal shopping thoroughfares and makes new connections to the wider city.
Lester Hampson, Head of Retail Development at Land Securities said, ‘We are very proud to receive this Award for Trinity Leeds. We have a great track record of retail and leisure schemes in city centres in the UK. This gives us confidence for our two new developments in Glasgow and Oxford that we have presented at MAPIC this week.’
