«The Austrian Council of Shopping Centres signed an agreement Wednesday to join ICSC, in the latest of a series of such pacts that have doubled ICSC’s European membership over the past year to nearly 4,000. The signing took place during ICSC’s European Conference in Stockholm.
Last year the Nordic, Italian and German councils of shopping centers joined ICSC, as part of a trend that is expected to help boost the organization’s influence with the European Union’s political leadership in Brussels. Some 40 CEOs from member companies will be meeting with EU parliamentary representatives in May.
Joining ICSC also brings business opportunities, noted ICSC Europe’s managing director, Mike Morrissey. “Members of the national shopping centre councils are increasingly interested in developing business opportunities outside their own countries,” he said. “ICSC Europe is in pole position to facilitate this through its networking and educational events, conferences, seminars and the sharing of ICSC global research and knowledge”
The Austrian Council adds 130 members to ICSC’s European rolls. The Nordic countries are Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, comprising about 1,100 members. The Italian Council has about 100 companies, while the German Council has about 700 members.
“We are delighted to be signing this agreement which will benefit all our members by opening new doors globally,” said Stephan Mayer-Heinisch, chairman of the Austrian Council.
ICSC is pursuing additional agreements with other European national councils to further boost its numbers on the continent»
