Commerz Real and the project developer Provast have begun with the construction measures for the transformation of the Amsterdam Twin Towers into a mixed-use office building. Situated in the Zuidas business district, the so-called “Financial Mile”, the ensemble comprising an office tower with 20,000 square metres of leasable space and 376 underground car parking spaces as well as a hotel tower with a four-star Innside Hotel by Meliá with 328 rooms will be positioned as “2Amsterdam” in the future. Meliá Innside hotels are aimed at the business and leisure target groups. On the 21st floor there will be a sky bar which affords a panorama view over Amsterdam and is accessible to the public. The hotel and the car park are scheduled for completion at the end of 2020, the office tower in spring 2021. The two towers will be connected to one another by a green area. The ensemble is to be awarded the international sustainability certificate BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology) in the second-highest category, “Excellent”.
“With the repositioning of the office tower we are taking into account the considerable demand for high-quality office space in Amsterdam,” explains Martijn Houwen, Head of Real Estate Markets Benelux at Commerz Real. “The hotel and the first sky bar in the Zuidas business district will significantly enhance the attraction of the area.” The owner of the towers for about 20 years now has been the Commerz Real open-ended real estate fund hausInvest. The building was designed by KCAP Architects & Planners, which was also responsible for the development of Hamburg’s HafenCity. The lead building contractor is JP van Eesteren.
