Brookfield just signed a new commercial lease with Sirius Facilities for premises on Potsdamer Platz in downtown Berlin. Sirius Facilities, an operator of business parks and office centres across Germany, rented around 4,000 square metres of office space on Eichhornstrasse. The lease was signed for a ten-year term. BNP Paribas Real Estate acted in an advisory role during the lease negotiations.
“We are very happy about our new tenant. Of course, there are plenty of great office locations in Berlin, but Potsdamer Platz is unique. So, we will keep up our continuous efforts to develop Potsdamer Platz further into a high-end office and business location, and to strengthen the quarter as a whole through a variety of measures,” said Karl L. Wambach, Executive Vice President Europe of Brookfield Properties. “When Brookfield Properties took over Potsdamer Platz in early 2016, the occupancy rate was down to 53 percent. Today, when including the latest lease signing, we are looking at an office occupancy of about 95 percent at Potsdamer Platz, a result we are quite happy with.”
Rüdiger Swoboda, Managing Director and COO at Sirius Facilities, commented: “For Sirius Facilities, Potsdamer Platz is very well suited as a new office location, being easily accessible and superbly located in the middle of Berlin while having plenty of international appeal with its singular architecture. The ambitious plans of Brookfield Properties will make Quartier Potsdamer Platz, and with it the office location, even more attractive for our staff.”
