For the second time in three years, Ivanhoé Cambridge has won Global Real Estate Investor of the Year as it picked up the latest trophy at the IPE Real Estate Global Conference & Awards 2018 in Milan ( May 15).
The real estate investment arm of Quebec’s sovereign fund, Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, with more than C$60bn (€40bn) in assets, also won the Investment in Emerging Markets, Listed Strategy and Value-added Strategy in the silver themed category at the event.
The Outstanding Industry Contribution went to Jim Fetgatter. Fetgatter has been the chief executive of the Association of Foreign Investors in Real Estate (AFIRE) since 1992. Fetgatter, who is planning to retire from his role, has been in the global institutional real estate industry for over 40 years.
The pension fund Industriens Pension was awarded to Real Assets & Infrastructure Investor of the Year, beating its shortlisted Danish peer PensionDanmark and France’s Union Mutualiste Retraite.
Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan picked up the Large Real Estate Investor of the Year and Sustainable Strategy award.
Germany’s WPV was awarded the Medium Real Estate Investor of the Year in addition to the best performer in the Austria, Germany & Switzerland region.
SBZ Pensioen and Cambridge Associates won Small Real Estate Investor of the Year and Investment Consultancy of the Year category respectively.
National Pension Service won for Core & Core-plus Strategies and the Asia Pacific regional category.
Other regional winners include Integrale for Belgium & France, APG for Netherlands and AP Pension for Nordic Countries.
Oxford Properties, the global real estate arm of the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System, won for North America. It also picked up the Direct Strategy in the Silver Themed category.
Latvia’s Swedbank Investment Management picked the award for Newcomer.
Fondazione Enpam won the Other Countries & Regions category. Crown Estate was awarded for UK & Ireland.
In the Silver Themed category, Alternatives Strategy was won by PensionDanmark and Allianz Real Estate won Debt Strategy as well as Indirect Strategy.
The Investment in Asia Pacific award was picked up by Canada Pension Plan Investment Board.
Opportunistic Strategy was picked up by APK Pensionskasse and the award for Portfolio Construction went to Dutch fiduciary and investment manager MN.
This year’s IPE Real Estate Global Awards attracted a record 196 entries across all categories. From 14 countries around the world, the total market value of the institutional investors that took part was more than €2.77trn, while collectively their real estate and real assets under management exceeded €312.1bn.
