Day
3 kicked of with the Youth Agenda where we were energised by global
youth activists demanding system change from governments and businesses,
they had one key message: we must act now. The lack of climate change
in education systems was discussed by our panellists from Greenpeace,
Unilever, and Lego who agreed policy leaders must take responsibility
and make this system change.
Paris Agreement Promises
David
Kabua, President of the Marshall Islands, gave a strong call to action
calling for governments around the world to submit their Nationally
Determined Contributions
(NDCs) ahead of the 5th anniversary of the Paris Agreement.
Accelerating Infrastructure
Simon King at Mitie spoke about how the biggest challenge over the next
ten years will be the of accessibility of infrastructure. This sentiment
was reinforced by Thomas Becker, VP Sustainability & Mobility, BMW
Group, who spoke about the lack of public EV
charging points and how cities must act quickly to support and
accelerate infrastructure to enable the growth of urban mobility.
Future of Mobility Requires a Holistic Approach
A
clear message from our panellists was the future of mobility requiring a
holistic approach. Francois Austin at Oliver Wyman Forum highlighted
that
this is going to require cooperation between the public and
private sectors and that we must share fiscal and data assets to enable this change.
Leadership in Cities
The final panel of the day featured policymakers from Oslo and Helsinki
discussing the important low carbon solutions they are implementing in
their cities. They spoke of how we must focus on planning efficient
cities to reduce the need for transport and therefore
reduce emissions.
