With effect from 1 September 2013, Bent Muehlena ( pictured) will be the new head of the Real Estate Project Management department at Hamburg-based Union Investment Real Estate GmbH. The 45-year-old, who holds a degree in engineering, follows in the footsteps of Bernd Schade, who is joining department store group Breuninger. Bent Muehlena has been with the Hamburg-based property fund manager since 1999. In his most recent position, he was in charge of the Real Estate Project Management International/Europe section. In this new role, Muehlena will lead a 30-strong team consisting of architects, civil engineers and project managers. His key responsibility will be realising new-build projects as well as major refurbishments and extensions of existing properties. Quality assurance is another important aspect of his work. Last year, development projects accounted for more than a third of the EUR 2.5 billion that Union Investment invested in real estate. The Project Management department is also responsible for technical due diligence on all acquisitions.
